weekend links 2

this dreamy number was spotted over at: www.saipua.blogspot.ca
How cool are hellebores?

I spotted this impressive outfit on my pinterest & thought I would share.

Now McKenzie Powellhas quite the knack for flowers & her studio is drool worthy (I do not lie!) Go stop by her blog you are in for a treat:  www.mckenziepowell/blog

Now this nifty bonsai tree is really like no other I have seen before. How cool would it be to have this puppy in your living room? www.tokyogoodidea.com/bonsai

That concludes my list for today. Hopefully it will be enough to unsettle the dust that has been collecting on this blog. I have been busy with work & school ... you know the rest.

Louis Vuitton spring/summer 2012 Illustration

illustration: reubenvision

So as some of you may know Marc Jacob's spun pastel & cotton candy looks out of a carrousel at the Louis Vuitton s/s 2012 runway show. The oversized eyelet collars are what won me over at first, but the entire collection is very dreamy (sweet dreams I might add). I did this illustration of one of my favorite looks from the season and added the colour with gouache.

FYI: The Man Repeller

What is a man repeller you might ask?
noun
"Outfitting oneself in a sartorially offensive way that will result in repelling members of the opposite sex. Such garments include but are not limited to harem pants, boyfriend jeans, overalls (see: human repelling), shoulder pads, full length jumpsuits, jewelry that resembles violent weaponry and clogs."

It is also the name of a delightfully amusing & interesting blog I follow. Whether you are looking for new ways to work your wardrobe or just looking for a lighthearted read stop on over at www.manrepeller.com

ps: isn't this photo gold (I mean check out her shimmers on the wall)

Kloss & Sturridge Duo Sketchbook Series

illustration: reubenvision

Karlie Kloss and Tom Sturridge as seen in Vogue U.S.
A part in my Ink Sketchbook Series. Thought I would give myself a bit more of a challenge (as if drawing using only pens wasn't enough) and include 2 people instead of the usual 1. There is also the distinct problem I have with drawing peoples faces sideways!? I have deemed it highly improbable to achieve this look convincingly.

The lovely Anna Jogodzinska, as she appears in the print ad for Tom Ford Black Orchid.
Another part in my sketchbook series. Done entirely in pen; no pencils and erasers allowed.

Liu Wen sketchbook series

illustration: reubenvision

This is another instillation in my sketch book series. Its Liu Wen the lovely supermodel from China.
I have been using pen so that I can't fix any mistakes while I draw.

Sasha Pivovarova sketchbook series

illustration: reubenvision

Here is a ink sketch done of Sasha from a Tom Ford Ad. I thought the blunt bangs made for a interesting picture. You can't go wrong when you have eyes like Sasha.

the Hart Masquerade

illustration: reubenvision

Here is a playful doodle I thought I would post. She holds an antler & her jacket is spotted like a fawn. I should rework the image as this was more of a preliminary sketch, I will see if I have time.

Dancing Along in DKNY

illustration: reubenvision

I was working on my Christmas card designs today & thought I would take a fashionable break. After browsing through the catwalk line-up from Donna Karan's latest collection, I decided to give this playful number a whirl on the sketch page. Gathering inspiration from Haiti DKNY has done a splendid job on their collection for spring/summer 2012.

Hope you are all having a lovely weekend.

Soft Breeze

Soft Breeze: reubenvision

Finished this illustration in my sketchbook last night. I find the repeated circles reminiscent of coffee cup stains on my paper.

Sweater Season Is Here

source: krisatomic

Cable-knit, cardigan, cozy pullover or any other warm comfortable form; sweater season is here & I am loving it. These are some great sweaters I have been "pinning" to my fashion board on Pinterest .
I am going to try & prolong the "winter jacket" as long as possible this year & my solution is sweaters.

pretty pale peach & dusk grey

A collage I did in my sketchbook last week. It all started when I found the great photo of the damsal in the car. I feel like the grey background & the sketchbook coil add to the piece so I decided to leave them there.
Have a grand weekend all, I am off tomorrow to watch a rugby game in the pouring rain. (the things one does for relatives)

Practice practice practice

Just another practice sketch done from a reference photo. I am trying to get a speed & consistency built into my drawings.

VINTAGE SEWING SPOOLS

photo: reubenvision

I was inspired by all of the interesting labels on some old thread spools found at my grampy's house.
I especially like the green one (centre right).
