Dolphin Cake Topper DIY

image: reubenvision

Not a title you see on this blog everyday. I came up with this idea when planning a memory project for my creative process class. When I was around seven years old I loved dolphins. Not the most manly thing in the world; sure I loved sharks, sting-rays & whales to but dolphins took the cake. (pun intended) That year for my birthday I was delighted to receive an ice-cream cake bearing an icing dolphin just for me.
Fast forward a few years and I have come up with something a little different inspired by that good memory. A Maple Pecan Bunt cake with boiled icing & three flipper 'd friends leaping into the sky. I also created a balloon backdrop from my crafting sheet & some pins. I can upload a printable version of the dolphin graphics if anyone is interested.

Friday Flowers & Apple Jelly

I am really impressed with how long the Wax Flowers (they are real, wax flower is just their name) are lasting. These are still mostly all in bright bloom three weeks later. The white ones are lasting longer then the pink.
I also thought I would share a few shots of the delicious apple jelly that my mother made last weekend. If Anyone is interested I can share the recipe. The best part about this batch is that it is the first year we were able to use our own apples. Our solitary tree in the front yard had a bumper crop this year. I also think the fact that we now have a dog, is keeping the usual deer gang at bay.

Happy Friday!

summer supper

Gathered at some friends house for a traditional "Sunday Supper".
We all enjoyed the fresh corn on the cob, spinach salad, market carrots, broccoli, home grown garden potatoes & BBQ steak. I brought some flowers I picked on my way there & after we got a tour of the chicken coop.

Rhubarb-vision

So for many a year I was chiefly referred to as Rhubarb.
Not that I minded. Rhubarb is great especially in crisp.
Here are some pics of my D&G glasses that I need to wear for long distance
with some rhubarb styling.

Learning to cook:

One of my New Years resolutions is to cook more & become more adept at cooking.

Hopefully I will come up with some meals impressive enough to post to the internet.
