(c) reubenvision

Above is two lovely ladies from Made You Blush & Asa from RSX Clothing. I did some fast portrait work of the guests & models at the Launch party & Fashion Show at RSX Denim. Alley parties are where its' at & this one was no exception. I will be posting more work from the show later this week. Stop in to Robert Simmonds & flip through the drawings on the easel and check out the sweet threads on the racks.

Lets Talk: Floral Print

Whether you are raiding the racks at Barney's or going through the two for $4 bin at your local thrift store, you are sure to find florals and fauna motifs galore. Done well a print can look totally chic in any scenario. I am a huge flower fan in general & must admit to having a weakness for it in clothing.
Here is a little glimpse of just some of the floral inspiration I have been collecting.

Here in haute couture.

A simple and great choice for Fashion Week.

It does not always need to be loud or colourful. Embroidered lace on this Erdem coat looks very timeless.

I would wear this look from Givenchy every second day all summer long if I could (bleached brows included)

& last but not least an art inspired dress from Stella McCartney.

Platonic Structures

A site work I installed using the platonic structure of an equilateral polyhedron.
Using driftwood that collects along the banks leading up to the Hydro dam.

These are just three drawing that I completed in  my drawing class this year. I am working on building my portfolio & going through all of my stuff. I am not sure if these will make it in, but I thought I would share.

weekend links 2

this dreamy number was spotted over at: www.saipua.blogspot.ca
How cool are hellebores?

I spotted this impressive outfit on my pinterest & thought I would share.

Now McKenzie Powellhas quite the knack for flowers & her studio is drool worthy (I do not lie!) Go stop by her blog you are in for a treat:  www.mckenziepowell/blog

Now this nifty bonsai tree is really like no other I have seen before. How cool would it be to have this puppy in your living room? www.tokyogoodidea.com/bonsai

That concludes my list for today. Hopefully it will be enough to unsettle the dust that has been collecting on this blog. I have been busy with work & school ... you know the rest.

Dirty Glasses

image: reubenvision(c)

Self portraits are not my favorite things. If I thought I was that interesting to look at you would have seen a photo of me on here earlier. This is the final result of a project for my creative process class where we had to do a variation on a theme. My glasses are just a little over a year old & already they have become an integral part of my identity. Before 2011 I was never the blonde boy with glasses. It is a love hate relationship; & if I had a dollar for every time I got a finger print on them I would not need my new job as a waiter. (well that is all the update on my life that is necessary)

Romantic Flowers in time for Valentines

(& yes that is Measha Brueggergosman)
these flowers just got fancier

So this past weekend I had the joy of creating some moody romantic flowers for a intimate concert performed by none other then Measha Brueggergosman. If you don't know her or her gorgeous voice, let google introduce you. Curly willow, driftwood, seeded eucalyptus, and little leaves I made from vintage sheet music, complemented a variety of different blooms. Check out more my "flower" blog for more photos.

Fashion Design Illustration

design/illustration: reubenvision

This is a look I sketched by hand & then coloured on my computer. A print skirt worn with a coat, opaque tights and black heals. I may try to flesh out a whole collection based around the inspiration I was using for this look.

Pin for the Win

Just thought I would share a few things I have been finding on Pinterest in the last little while.
Stella seems to have a pension for florals & I am not complaining.
I might not wear the gloves but the rest of this look from Burberry is working for me.
If you are not yet a fan of green a word of caution; that dress will seduce you.
Carven is bringing some intense pattern to the table & people are eating it up.
The last one is to over indulge in your eye candy sensory.
Happy Weekend!

Winter Breeze :illustration submission

illustration: reubenvision

This is a submission for a "zine" being published for a local music festival. The general unofficial theme is surviving the cold weather of winter. I decided to play with the idea of a warm winter sweater & a cool icy breeze. I submitted it a little late but hope it will still be included.

A glimpse into my sketchbook

illustrations: reubenvision

Photos of recent pages in my sketchbook. Mind you this is not an entirely balanced representation. I dont often use flame when creating; this was for an assignment that required an element of spontaneity or lack of control. Enter a lighter & some pages from my old binder. I overlaid several pages to get the desired look & then added some illustrations around the one on the left.
